How to Backup Website Files Only (File Manager / FTP)

  1. Log in to cPanel and open File Manager.

  2. Go to the folder that contains your website:

    1. Commonly: public_html (or the domain’s document root).

  3. Select the website folder (or all files inside it).

  4. Create an archive:

    1. Click Compress.

    2. Choose ZIP (common/easy).

  5. Download the archive:

    1. Select the generated ZIP file.

    2. Click Download.

  6. Alternative method (FTP):

    1. Connect using an FTP client.

    2. Download the entire site folder to your computer.

  7. Verify the backup:

    1. Confirm the ZIP size is reasonable (not suspiciously tiny).

    2. Open the ZIP and verify it contains expected folders (wp-content, images, etc.).

Note: Files-only backups do not include databases. If your site uses a database (WordPress does), also take a DB export.
